Legacy and Excellence: The Evolution of François Voyer Cognacs

By the late 19th century, Paul André was one of the few distilling his own Cognacs, including a gold medal winner at the Segonzac contest. In the 1960s, under Guy Chauchet, their stock of aged eaux-de-vie expanded, and bottling began, leading to early successes. The 1990s saw the range enhanced, gaining global interest. Today, François Voyer, led by cellar master Pierre Vaudon, collaborates with numerous winegrowers in Grande Champagne, producing over 10 blends enjoyed in more than 30 countries and served in top restaurants.

Botanical

A Symphony of Citrus and Floral Notes

To craft a unique and delicate spirit, citrus fruits, lime blossom, and dried flowers are carefully selected for their aromatic qualities. These ingredients, along with a hint of dried apricot, create a complex bouquet that is both soft and subtle. The resulting golden liquid, with its bronze highlights, is then meticulously aged, allowing its flavors to develop a great length in the mouth, leaving a lasting impression of finesse and elegance.

Ugni Blanc grapes

Ugni Blanc is grown in a vast geographical region because it adapts well to highly diverse growing conditions. In France, it is mainly grown near Angoulême and in Gers, where it is used to make still dry wines, but it is also the variety of choice for production of Cognac and Armagnac. It is also found in the Mediterranean region, mainly in the southeast, as well as in the southwest and Corsica on a smaller scale.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Botanical

An excellent VS Cognac from this high quality house.

Renowned for their meticulous methods, the house uses only Ugni Blanc grapes harvested from their 28 hectares of vineyards, located in Cognac’s premier cru. The area between vines is allowed to grow as wild meadow plots, which means that the vines have to work a little harder, producing more flavoursome fruit.

The People

Pierre Vaudon

Oenologist and Cellar Master

Oenologist and Cellar Master of the François Voyer house. He took the brand over in 2017 after having spent 20 years creating its blends. Discover his child-of-the-land journey between family vineyard and Grande Champagne brand. We are the custodians of this estate and of the eaux-de-vie stored in our Paradise – some being over a hundred years old. Thus, we have a duty of preservation. We wish to pass on to our children these values – work and meticulousness – that helped define who we are. Their goal is to create Grande Champagne cognacs increasingly ambitious in terms of flavour to make their customers’ special occasions even more extraordinary and to earn their loyalty – while always staying true to the generations who helped them build what we have.

The Video

The History

1870S

SINCE THE 1870S AND THE FRENCH REVOLUTION Vines have been grown in the Verrières village for more than 200 years and the French Revolution. These two villages have an exceptional reputation in the Grande Champagne, 1er Cru de Cognac area. The Chauchet-Voyer family has been distilling wine and aged eaux-de-vie in oak barrels since the 1870 – that means more than 5 generations.

1900

TURN OF THE 19th CENTURY The paradise with 1er cru de cognac At the turn of the 19th Century, Paul André was one of the few winegrowers to distill his production. Our cellar comprises of numerous old eaux-de-vie. Among them is the gold medal in the 50 years+ category of the “Segonzac eaux-de-vie” contest, Capital of the Grande Champagne 1er cru. He also left us with a “Paradise” filled with 1er Cru de Cognac.

1960S to 1990S

AGEING & BOTTLING The 1960s helped us increase our stock under the benevolent leadership of Guy Chauchet -Voyer, a strong advocate of ageing eaux-de-vie. This time also marks the start of the bottling process. Several lots were produced and met with some success.  But the 1990s and the enhancement of the range strongly increased the appetite of enthusiasts for our terroir.

TODAY

François Voyer in the 21st Century  Today we work with numerous wine-growers located in several Grande Champagne towns.
